The Building Diagnostics & Leak detection Technician is responsible for investigating building defects, identifying the root cause of failures, and providing technically sound recommendations to support remedial repair projects.

This role acts as the technical link between clients, engineers, estimators, project managers and site teams, ensuring accurate diagnosis, quality reporting and practical repair methodologies.

In addition to conducting building diagnostics and leak detection investigations, the role supports project quality assurance, WHS compliance, emergency response works and continuous improvement initiatives across the business.

The position plays a critical role in maintaining EasyTrades' reputation for delivering technically sound, high-quality remedial building solutions.

Position Purpose

The Building Diagnostics & Leak detection Technician is responsible for investigating building defects, identifying the root cause of failures, and providing technically sound recommendations to support remedial repair projects.

This role acts as the technical link between clients, engineers, estimators, project managers and site teams, ensuring accurate diagnosis, quality reporting and practical repair methodologies.

In addition to conducting building diagnostics and leak detection investigations, the role supports project quality assurance, WHS compliance, emergency response works and continuous improvement initiatives across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Building Diagnostics & Investigations

- Conduct building diagnostics and defect investigations across commercial, strata, government.

- Perform leak detection, moisture testing and both non-invasive and invasive building investigations.

- Operate specialist diagnostic equipment including thermal imaging cameras, moisture meters and other testing equipment.

- Identify the root cause of building defects, water ingress, structural movement and material failures.

- Assess damage resulting from water ingress, structural deterioration and building movement.





- Determine practical repair methodologies and provide technical recommendations for review with Remedial Estimator to establish scopes of works.

Reporting

- Prepare professional inspection reports using EasyTrades reporting templates.

- Capture detailed photographic evidence.

- Document findings, observations and recommended repair strategies.

- Maintain accurate inspection records within company systems.

- Ensure reports are completed accurately and within required timeframes.

Project Support

- Provide technical advice to Estimators during quotation and tender preparation.

- Assist Project Managers with technical issues throughout project delivery.

- Attend site meetings where required.

- Assist in developing repair methodologies and construction sequencing.

- Support project handovers and technical problem solving.

Quality Assurance

- Conduct Quality Control (QC) inspections across active projects.

- Verify workmanship complies with Australian Standards and project specifications.

- Identify defects requiring rectification.

- Monitor project quality throughout construction.

- Provide recommendations for quality improvements.

WHS & Compliance

- Complete internal WHS inspections and compliance audits.

- Ensure inspections comply with:

- National Construction Code (NCC)

- Australian Standards

- Design & Building Practitioners Act (DBPA)

- Company Quality Management Systems

- WHS legislation

- Identify safety risks and recommend corrective actions.

Emergency Response

- Attend emergency make-safe inspections following building failures.

- Assess building safety.

- Recommend temporary protection measures.

- Assist in developing emergency repair scopes.

Continuous Improvement

- Assist in developing and improving:

- Inspection procedures

- Reporting templates

- Quality documentation

- ISO Management Systems





- Operational procedures

- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality and client outcomes.

Skills & Experience

Essential

- Experience in remedial construction, building inspections or building diagnostics.

- Strong understanding of waterproofing systems and building defects.

- Ability to identify root causes rather than symptoms.

- Excellent written communication skills.

- Strong organisational and time management skills.

- Current Driver Licence.

- Construction White Card.

Desirable

- Trade qualification in Carpentry, Building, Waterproofing, Plumbing or similar.

- Builder's Licence.

- Experience using:

- Thermal Imaging Cameras

- Moisture Meters

- Leak Detection Equipment

- Computer literate.

- Experience interpreting engineering reports and construction drawings.
