This is an identified role, and applicants must identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. SBS considers that being Aboriginal and/or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under s 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

This role is classified as Level 1‑6 role under SBS Australia's current Enterprise Agreement (with a base salary range of $70,286 – $91,813). The successful applicant will be offered remuneration that is commensurate with their skills and experience and in alignment with this framework.

As a rostered shift worker, additional shift penalty payments may apply for work performed outside of ordinary hours, including weekends and public holidays, as per the SBS Enterprise Agreement (EA). SBS may also require you to work reasonable overtime, which will be paid at applicable rates in accordance with the EA.

About the role

As part of NITV’s Indigenous News and Current Affairs team, the Digital News Journalist & Producer creates original, culturally grounded digital news content for NITV and SBS platforms.

Key responsibilities

- Produce digital news and video: plan, write,



edit and publish high-quality articles and social-first video content, including breaking news, explainers and features.
- Ensure culturally safe, accurate reporting: work with editorial leads, follow SBS and INACA standards, and deliver content that authentically represents First Nations voices.
- Collaborate across NITV and SBS: support journalists and producers, contribute to TV and digital workflows, and promote content across social and third-party platforms.

About you

We are looking for a creative digital storyteller, who is passionate about elevating and amplifying the voices of First Nations people and communities.

Requirements

- 2+ years newsroom experience.
- Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues.
- Sensitivity to Indigenous cultural protocols.
- Excellent writing, editing and deadline skills.
- Experience with CMS, image editing and Canva.
- Skills in video editing, social media and vertical video (highly valued).
- A collaborative, solutions-focused approach and willingness to travel for major stories.
