Coastal Engineering and Belting Pty Ltd is seeking a talented CNC Machinist Production Programmer to join our dynamic team on a full-time basis. Based in Camdale, Tasmania, this role is pivotal to our manufacturing operations, combining skilled machining expertise with programming knowledge to drive our production efficiency and quality standards. You will be responsible for operating, programming and maintaining CNC machinery to produce precision components that meet our clients' specifications and our high quality standards. This position offers the opportunity to work with state‑of‑the‑art equipment whilst contributing to the success of a well‑established engineering and belting company.
Key responsibilities
- Operating and programming CNC milling and turning machines to produce components according to technical drawings and specifications
- Setting up machinery, selecting appropriate tools, and calibrating equipment to ensure accuracy and efficiency
- Developing and optimising production programmes and tooling strategies to maximise productivity and minimise waste
- Inspecting finished components and conducting quality checks to ensure they meet required tolerances and standards
- Troubleshooting and resolving machine malfunctions and programming errors in a timely manner
- Maintaining detailed production records and documentation for traceability and continuous improvement
- Collaborating with the production team to identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains
- Adhering to all health and safety regulations and best practices on the shop floor
- Performing routine maintenance and cleaning of machinery to ensure optimal performance
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience as a CNC Machinist, including hands‑on operation of CNC milling and turning machines
- Demonstrated proficiency in CNC programming languages
- Strong knowledge of machining principles, tolerances, and quality control practices
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and specifications accurately
- Experience with CAD/CAM software and CNC machine controllers (familiarity with specific systems is advantageous)
- Knowledge with 3, 4 and 5 axis machinery would be an advantage
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail to ensure precision and quality in all work
- Physical capability to perform the demands of the role, including standing for extended periods and lifting materials
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues
- A commitment to continuous learning and staying current with industry developments
- Relevant qualifications or certifications in CNC machining or mechanical engineering are preferred
