Structural Steel Workshop Manager / Forman

We are an establish and growing structural steel fabrication company delivering high-quality projects across commercial & industrial sectors.
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Workshop Manager / Foreman to lead our workshop team and drive production while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety and efficiency.
This is not a desk job. We need someone who leads from the front, is prepared to roll up their sleeves, and has the experience to solve problems, keep production moving, and ensure deadlines are met.

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Workshop Manager / Foreman to lead our workshop team and drive production while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety and efficiency.
This is not a desk job. We need someone who leads from the front, is prepared to roll up their sleeves, and has the experience to solve problems, keep production moving, and ensure deadlines are met.
About the Role
You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our workshop, leading a team of:
- 4 Processing Staff
- 15 Fabricators
- 15 Welders
Working closely with our Operations and Project Managers, you will coordinate production, manage priorities, and do whatever it takes to keep projects on schedule. You'll ensure work is completed to the highest quality standards while keeping materials flowing through fabrication and out the door to galvanisers, painters and site.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise all workshop operations safely and efficiently.
- Manage daily production schedules and labour resources.
- Ensure fabrication complies with AS/NZS 5131 CC3 and ISO 3834-2 quality requirements.
- Coordinate closely with Operations and Project Managers to ensure project deadlines are achieved.
- Prioritise work and adapt quickly to changing project requirements.
- Drive productivity while maintaining exceptional workmanship.
- Monitor quality throughout fabrication and welding processes.
- Ensure materials are processed, fabricated and dispatched to galvanisers, painters and site on time.
- Maintain a safe, organised and productive workshop environment.
- Mentor and support workshop personnel to achieve high performance.
About You
The successful applicant will have:
- Extensive experience in structural steel fabrication.
- Previous experience managing or supervising a fabrication workshop.
- Solid understanding of AS/NZS 5131 CC3 and ISO 3834-2 requirements.
- A hands‑on leadership style with the ability to lead by example.
- Excellent planning, organisational and multitasking skills.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build respect and work effectively with people at every level of the business.
- A strong work ethic with exceptional attention to detail.
- A proactive attitude and a commitment to finding solutions rather than problems.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure while delivering results.
- Have forklift and dogging tickets (ideal but not essential)
