We're seeking a Utilities Systems Inspection Officer to join our Utilities team and help ensure the integrity, safety and compliance of critical water and sewer infrastructure across the Shire.

This is an prospect to combine technical expertise, stakeholder engagement and environmental stewardship in a role that makes a real difference to the community. Working across both field and office environments, you'll manage compliance programs, undertake investigations and inspections, provide technical advice and help improve the systems that support sustainable water management.

What you’ll be doing

- Monitor and manage compliance across water and sewer systems, including liquid trade waste, backflow devices and private infrastructure and reuse systems
- Conduct inspections, testing and audits to ensure systems meet regulatory and Council requirements
- Review field data and support the issuing of approvals, reports and non-compliance notices
- Maintain accurate records and system registers for compliance and reporting purposes
- Educate customers, contractors and the community on compliance requirements and best practices
- Contribute to the development and improvement of policies, systems and processes

What we’re looking for

- Experience in utilities, water, wastewater, plumbing, drainage, environmental management (or a related field)
- Knowledge of water reticulation and sewerage collection systems
- Experience interpreting and applying regulations, standards or compliance requirements
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with customers,



contractors and stakeholders
- Confidence working independently and managing competing priorities
- Strong computer and reporting skills
- Current Driver Licence

Highly regarded:

- Certificate IV in Water Industry Operations (Liquid Trade Waste Regulation) or willingness to obtain
- Background in plumbing, drainage, environmental health or wastewater operations
- Knowledge of wastewater monitoring, sampling and testing techniques
- Confined Space or Construction WHS certifications Experience in policy development or process improvement
- Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with an appointment at a salary in the range of $1,403.59 to $1,626.28 per week (dependent upon skills and experience)

Location: This position is based at Council's Works Depot in Byron Bay, however Council can require you to work from other work sites as required for operational reasons.
