This is not a front-end commercial role.

The contracts have already been negotiated. The assets are being built or are operational. Your job is to know exactly what the agreements require, make sure every obligation is met and act when it is not.

You will take ownership of a substantial portfolio of long-term contracts supporting major renewable energy and power infrastructure assets. Some of these agreements will remain in place for 20, 30 or even 40 years. They carry significant financial obligations, service requirements, credit support arrangements and commercial risk.

The business does not need another dealmaker.

It needs a senior contract manager who enjoys the detail, knows how to enforce an agreement and is comfortable holding customers and internal stakeholders to account.

The role

- You will join the commercial operations function of a major Australian energy infrastructure organisation.
- The team manages the agreements that sit behind the connection, operation and ongoing support of renewable energy assets across the electricity network. The portfolio currently includes approximately 100 agreements across 50 customers, with its total value expected to grow significantly over the coming years.
- Your focus will be on contract governance, obligation management and protecting the commercial and financial position of the business.

That includes:

- Leading the end-to-end management of complex operational and maintenance contracts
- Interpreting contractual rights, obligations, milestones and service requirements
- Monitoring compliance against commercial terms, SLAs and performance commitments
- Managing notices, defaults, disputes, claims, variations and escalations
- Ensuring annual fees and other billable items are invoiced and recovered correctly
- Managing bank guarantees, parent company guarantees,

insurance obligations and other financial security
- Identifying risk relating to scope, pricing, penalties, cost, revenue and performance
- Providing explicit contractual advice to operational, commercial, finance and legal stakeholders
- Improving governance, reporting, contract management plans and performance controls
- Helping implement better systems, tools and dashboards across the portfolio
- Establishing more consistent contract management frameworks and ways of working across the business

What makes this different

This is a genuine second-in-command position.

You will work closely with the Director, provide leadership across the wider contract management team and become the person they can rely on when they are unavailable.

There is a credible pathway into the Director position. The intention is to bring in someone capable of learning the portfolio, building the confidence of the leadership team and potentially stepping up within the next 12 to 18 months.

The commercial operations team has doubled in size over the past 18 months. The next stage is not simply adding more people. It is introducing stronger governance, better systems and a more disciplined approach to contract management as the value of the portfolio grows.

You will have a significant say in how that is done.

About you

You will have at least 10 years of experience managing complex contracts across energy, utilities, infrastructure, construction,

transport or another heavily regulated environment.

A legal background would be highly regarded. You may be a lawyer who moved into commercial contract management, or a senior contract professional with strong legal and contractual training.

More important is how you operate.

- You are comfortable getting into the detail of an agreement and giving a clear answer.
- You do not need someone checking your work.
- You can move quickly when an executive needs information.
- You understand that maintaining a customer relationship does not mean avoiding difficult conversations.
- You are prepared to issue a notice, enforce a payment obligation or challenge non-compliance when the contract requires it.
- You can be firm externally without becoming difficult internally.
- You will also need the credibility and leadership experience to support contract managers and administrators, improve capability across the team and eventually assume broader responsibility.

Experience in renewable energy or electricity infrastructure would be valuable, but strong candidates from oil and gas, transport, major infrastructure or complex operational contracting environments will also be considered.

This role is based in Sydney and requires regular office attendance, typically at least three days per week.

The opportunity

- You will be joining a nationally significant energy infrastructure business at a point of substantial growth.
- The portfolio supports the connection and operation of major renewable energy assets; the contracts are complex and long-term, and the work has a direct impact on revenue, risk and asset performance.
- For someone who wants to remain close to the detail while moving toward a Director-level position, there is a clear opportunity here.
