At the City of Melville, we're transforming community safety services. Following the integration of Rangers and Community Safety into MelSafe, we are seeking an experienced, strategic leader to drive innovation, service excellence and strong community outcomes.
As Manager Community Safety, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across MelSafe and Community Safety Projects & Education, delivering responsive, customer-focused services aligned with community expectations and the City's strategic objectives.
Based primarily at the City of Melville Civic Centre, the role offers a generous Base Salary from $185,000 on a Common Law Contract of up to 5 years.
What You’ll Be Doing
Reporting to the Director Community Development, you will lead a diverse team responsible for operational community safety services, investigations, projects and education initiatives. You will drive service innovation, continuous improvement, workforce capability, governance and stakeholder partnerships while ensuring the safe and effective delivery of services across the City.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing strategic leadership for the Community Safety service area.
- Leading the ongoing integration and continuous improvement of MelSafe.
- Managing operational and capital budgets, service planning and resource allocation.
- Driving the use of technology, data and customer insights to enhance service delivery.
- Building robust partnerships with WA Police, government agencies, community organisations and internal stakeholders.
- Leading and developing high-performing teams through coaching, mentoring and workforce planning.
- Providing expert advice and reports to senior leadership,
Council and elected members on complex community safety matters.
What We’re Looking For
- A current National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent senior leadership experience.
- Significant senior leadership experience within local government, community safety, compliance, regulatory services, emergency management or a similar environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading service transformation and embedding strong governance frameworks.
- Strong financial management, strategic planning and operational leadership capability.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- The ability to manage complex issues while maintaining a customer-focused approach.
