This role is suited to a graduate or early-career Quantitative Researcher joining RQI's Alpha Research team. We welcome applications from final-year students, recent graduates, and candidates with up to a few years of relevant industry experience who have strong quantitative training.

You will work closely with senior researchers and portfolio managers across the full lifecycle of systematic equity research — from idea generation and data analysis, through empirical testing and back‑testing, to implementation and ongoing model evaluation — with a focus on global and Australian equities.

The role is ideal for candidates who enjoy quantitative problem‑solving, working with data, and writing high‑quality research code, and who are looking to build a career in systematic investing.

About youYour experience

We don’t require a specific degree pathway, we prioritise quantitative strength, strong academic results, and demonstrated analytical capability.

- Final-year student, recent graduate, or early-career professional in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Econometrics, or similar), with strong academic performance in mathematically or computationally focused subjects.
- Strong quantitative problem‑solving skills, including statistics, linear algebra, and optimisation
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis (Num Py, pandas; ML libraries a plus), with familiarity in Linux/Git; exposure to SQL, R or C++ advantageous
- Evidence of substantial research or project work (e.g. thesis, internships, major coursework), applying quantitative methods to real datasets
- Genuine interest in financial markets and systematic investing; prior finance experience not required

Research, data analysis & modelling

- Research and develop equity alpha signals across regions and investment horizons
- Apply statistical and econometric techniques to test hypotheses and assess robustness
- Work with large cross‑sectional and time‑series equity datasets




- Build and maintain Python research code covering data preparation, feature construction, and model estimation
- Evaluate model performance using back‑tests, attribution analysis, and diagnostic tools
- Analyse the interaction between alpha signals, risk, and portfolio constraints
- Develop clean, reproducible research code suitable for reuse and transition toward production, in collaboration with quantitative developers
- Contribute to internal tools that improve research speed, quality, and transparency
- Present research findings in team forums and iterate based on feedback
- Work closely with researchers and portfolio managers to refine research questions, interpret results, and prioritise next steps
- Receive structured mentoring and on‑the‑job training in equity markets, portfolio construction, risk models, and internal research governance
