Madsen Law is looking for an experienced Family Lawyer to join our team and work alongside our Principal (a QLS Accredited Family Law Specialist), our Senior Associate, and the wider family law team. We are looking for a lawyer who takes ownership of their files: someone who runs their own case load with confidence, brings sound judgement and strategy, and delivers an excellent standard of service to clients. A passion for family law is essential, and an interest in extending into Estate Law is a desireable.
Madsen Law specialises in all aspects of Family Law, led by our Principal, a QLS Accredited Family Law Specialist. We also practise in Wills, Estate Law and Business Law.
About the role
You will take full carriage of your own matters, including property, children, divorce and DVO matters, with end-to-end responsibility from initial advice through to resolution. You'll be well-versed in litigation in the Federal Circuit and Family Court, confidently running mentions, interim hearings, mediations and negotiations, and managing client relationships directly.
You will work within a cooperative team structure, with appropriate oversight and support from experienced directors.
What we are looking for:
We are open to candidates at different stages of their career:
- Solicitor (3+ PAE): You are confident running matters independently, building client relationships, and contributing to team leadership and performance.
- Confidence appearing in the Federal Circuit and Family Court, including mentions, interim hearings and mediations
- Estate Law experience highly regarded, or a genuine willingness to extend your practice into this area
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to clients
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills, and sound commercial judgement on running matters efficiently
- Right to practise in Queensland (Essential - Certificate will need to be provided)
- Familiarity with LEAP or similar practice management software

What you will bring:
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written, with the ability to break down concepts into simple easily understood language.
- Hold the right to practice in Queensland and certificate presented.
- Competent time managementand time recording skills.
- Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.Desire to progress clients matters in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
- Familiarity with LEAP software or similar
- Experience in Family law, including property and financial matters (financial agreements desirable)
- A minimum of 2 years post-admission experience
