Operations Manager – Hunter Valley Football

Hunter Valley Football is seeking an experienced, highly organised and community-focused Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day administration and delivery of football throughout the Hunter Valley region.

Reporting to the President and working closely with the Hunter Valley Football Board, staff, Member Clubs, Northern NSW Football and other key stakeholders, the Operations Manager will be responsible for implementing the organisation’s strategic direction, overseeing competitions and ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the Zone.

This is a diverse leadership position suited to a capable administrator who can balance operational delivery, stakeholder management, financial oversight and strategic planning within a community sporting workplace.

Key responsibilities

The Operations Manager will:

Lead the day-to-day operations and administration of Hunter Valley Football.

Implement the organisation’s strategic and operational plans, policies and Board decisions.

Oversee the administration and delivery of Hunter Valley Football competitions.

Provide timely, accurate and relevant advice and reporting to the Board.

Lead, support and manage staff while fostering a positive and accountable workplace culture.

Build and maintain productive relationships with Member Clubs, Northern NSW Football, other Member Zones, referees, councils, sponsors, suppliers and community stakeholders.

Prepare, monitor and report against organisational budgets.

Ensure appropriate financial, risk management, governance, human resources and workplace health and safety systems are maintained.

Identify and pursue grants, partnerships, sponsorships and other revenue opportunities.

Support effective communication and high-quality service delivery to clubs, participants and volunteers.





Represent Hunter Valley Football at meetings, events, competitions and within the broader sporting community.

The position carries responsibility for financial and resource management, people leadership, compliance, stakeholder communication and the implementation of Board resolutions.

About you

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

Experience managing the day-to-day operations of an organisation, sporting body, association or comparable community-based organisation.

Strong leadership and people-management capabilities.

The ability to work effectively with a volunteer Board and provide sound operational and strategic advice.

Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills.

Strong financial, budgetary and administrative management skills.

Demonstrated strategic thinking and the ability to implement practical improvements.

Sound judgement, initiative and problem-solving capability.

The ability to develop positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

A commitment to high-quality customer service and member support.

A genuine desire to contribute to the growth and development of football throughout the Hunter Valley.

Experience within football, community sport, a member-based organisation or the not-for-profit sector will be highly regarded.

Qualifications and requirements

An appropriate tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant experience.

Current Working with Children Check,



or the ability to obtain one.

Sound computer literacy and experience using contemporary administration, financial and communication systems.

Knowledge of sporting governance, competition administration and volunteer-based organisations would be advantageous.

Hours and flexibility

Due to the nature of community football, the successful applicant will be required to work flexibly, including some evenings, weekends and non-traditional hours. Regular attendance at matches, events and meetings will be required, along with travel throughout the Hunter Valley region and to other locations when necessary.
