About the Opportunity
Are you an experienced educator with a passion for inclusive education and supporting students learning English as an additional language or dialect? John Paul College (JPC) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Diverse Learning Teacher - English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) Focus to join our vibrant Primary team.
This is initially a full-time 12-month contract, with the potential for extension. It offers an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and families in a supportive and dynamic environment where every student is empowered to thrive.
About the Role
At JPC, we believe in creating a nurturing and inclusive environment that encourages all students to reach their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. As a Diverse Learning Teacher with an EAL/D focus, you'll play a vital role in supporting students whose first language is a language or dialect other than Standard Australian English to access, participate in, and excel through our academic programs.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Work within year-level teams to support differentiated teaching practices that meet the needs of EAL/D students
- Provide targeted intervention for primary students requiring support to develop proficiency in English, working with specific groups and individuals within a set time frame
- Support EAL/D students individually, in small groups,
or within classroom settings to build the English language skills needed to access the general curriculum
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to jointly construct Adjustment Plans for EAL/D students
- Assist in the development, documentation and assessment of individual learning goals for EAL/D students
- Monitor student progress using diagnostic and formative assessment, maintaining accurate records including EAL/D Bandscales
- Utilise knowledge of the ACARA English as an Additional Language or Dialect Teacher Resource to guide teaching practice
About You
We are seeking an experienced educator who is passionate about inclusive education and making a difference for students learning English as an additional language or dialect.
- Qualifications in a relevant area such as TESOL or Special Education
- Demonstrated track record and understanding of working with EAL/D students
- Up to date knowledge of current evidence-based best practice in supporting EAL/D students
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Valid First Aid qualification or ability to obtain
