About the Role
Perilya Broken Hill is seeking a practical, field-focused Mechanical Engineer (Asset Integrity & Reliability) to join our Maintenance team at our Broken Hill Operations. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining the safety, reliability and integrity of critical fixed plant and infrastructure across our operation.
Working closely with maintenance, operations and engineering teams, you will drive asset integrity initiatives, support reliability improvement programs and provide hands-on engineering solutions that deliver safe and sustainable outcomes.
What You'll Be Doing
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will provide practical mechanical engineering support focused on fixed plant reliability,
ageing infrastructure management and structural integrity. Your work will ensure critical assets remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the integrity of critical mechanical assets and structures including conveyors, tanks, thickeners, pipework, chutes, bins and lifting infrastructure.
- Developing and maintaining risk-based inspection and defect management systems.
- Reviewing and optimising preventative maintenance strategies for critical equipment.
- Leading or supporting root cause investigations into significant equipment failures.
- Providing field-based engineering advice during breakdowns, shutdowns and major maintenance activities.
- Supporting engineering change management, compliance and technical governance requirements.
- Managing contractor scopes and verifying the quality of repairs and modifications.
About You
You are a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving problems in the field and working closely with tradespeople, supervisors and operational teams.
To be successful, you will have:
- Qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Solid experience in mining, mineral processing, heavy industry, asset integrity or fixed plant maintenance environments.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, maintenance practices and equipment reliability.
- Experience in structural inspections, defect management,
risk assessment and fit-for-purpose repairs.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- The ability to build effective working relationships across maintenance, operations and contractor groups.
Highly Regarded:
- Experience in concentrators, crushing, grinding, flotation, thickening, filtration or materials handling operations.
- Knowledge of corrosion, fatigue, wear, vibration analysis, NDT and structural remediation.
- Experience with CMMS systems and maintenance optimisation programs.
- Exposure to NSW mining compliance frameworks and Mechanical Engineering Control Plans.
- Chartered status or progression toward Chartered Engineer, NER or RPEQ recognition.
