Position Purpose

The Disability Support Worker – Community Access provides high-quality, person-centred support to NDIS participants to access and participate in community, social, recreational, educational, and other meaningful activities.

The role is focused on promoting participant choice, independence, confidence, social inclusion, and achievement of individual NDIS goals while ensuring participant safety, dignity, and wellbeing.

The Disability Support Worker will deliver supports in accordance with the NDIS Code of Conduct, NDIS Practice Standards, participant support plans, risk assessments, and U and V Care policies and procedures.

Key ResponsibilitiesCommunity Access and Participation

- Support participants to safely access community activities and services.
- Assist participants to attend social, recreational, cultural, educational, and employment-related activities.
- Encourage participants to develop independence, confidence, communication skills, and community connections.
- Support participants to participate in activities aligned with their interests, preferences, and NDIS goals.
- Promote inclusion, choice, and control in all aspects of service delivery.

Transport Support

- Safely transport participants to and from community activities where required.
- Assist participants with safe vehicle access and mobility requirements.
- Maintain professional driving standards and comply with road safety requirements.
- Ensure vehicles are clean, safe, and suitable for participant transport.
- Report any vehicle concerns, incidents, or hazards immediately.

Participant Support

- Build positive and respectful relationships with participants.
- Support participants to make informed choices and maintain independence.
- Provide encouragement and motivation during community activities.




- Respect participant privacy, dignity, culture, beliefs, and personal preferences.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times.

Health, Safety and Risk Management

- Follow participant support plans, risk assessments, and emergency procedures.
- Identify and report changes in participant wellbeing, hazards, incidents, or concerns.
- Follow workplace health and safety requirements.
- Apply safe manual handling practices where required.
- Maintain infection prevention and control standards.

Documentation and Reporting

- Complete accurate shift notes after every support shift.
- Record participant progress, activities completed, and relevant observations.
- Complete incident reports when required.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect participant information.

Essential Qualifications, Certificates and Checks

Applicants must have:

Qualifications

- Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability), Community Services, Mental Health, Ageing, or an equivalent nationally recognised qualification.

Mandatory Checks and Certifications

- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Current Working with Children Check (Employee).
- Current National Police Check (where required).
- Current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid).
- Current CPR Certificate (HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).
- Valid Australian Driver Licence.
- Reliable transport and willingness to travel within the community.
- Evidence of Australian working rights.

Mandatory Training

- Completion of NDIS Worker Orientation Module – Quality, Safety and You.
- Understanding of the NDIS Code of Conduct.
- Understanding of person-centred support principles.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience





Highly regarded:

- Certificate IV in Disability, Community Services, Mental Health, or related field.
- Previous experience working as a Disability Support Worker.
- Experience supporting people with:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Intellectual Disability
- Psychosocial Disability
- Acquired Brain Injury
- Complex support needs
- Manual Handling Training.
- Medication Assistance Training.
- Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) awareness.
- Experience providing NDIS Community Participation supports.

- Weekday, evening, weekend, and public holiday shifts.
- Driving participants to community activities.

- Maintain current mandatory certificates and checks.
- Complete required training and competency assessments.
- Follow U and V Care policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Maintain participant confidentiality.
- Report incidents, risks, and concerns promptly.
- Participate in ongoing professional development.
