About the role

The Head of Employability role provides leadership for the design, coordination and delivery of careers and employability initiatives, working in close partnership with Colleges, Schools and key portfolios.

Working with stakeholders across RMIT, you will be responsible for developing and operationalising the University's employability strategy with coherent, sustainable and measurable initiatives, supporting robust alignment between curriculum-embedded career development, industry-partnered learning, co-curricular programs, employer partnerships and student-facing services.

The role will also collaborate with RMIT Entities, including RMIT Vietnam, to support partnership and a joined-up approach to enabling career and employability processes and systems across the RMIT Group.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead planning and execution of priority careers and employability initiatives in support of RMIT's Education Plan and KPIs
- Build trusted partnerships with Colleges and Schools to embed employability into program design, teaching practice and student support
- Partner with academic leaders and RMIT colleagues to scale discipline-relevant employability approaches and improve the educator and student experience
- Align strategic employer and industry engagement across Colleges, Schools and Portfolios, prioritising high-impact partnerships that drive student employment outcomes
- Facilitate the development of consistent frameworks for employer engagement, quality assurance and relationship management




- Lead Education Portfolio teams delivering careers education, employability programs, employer engagement, Career Connect and co-curricular professional development
- Ensure careers and employability offerings build career readiness for diverse cohorts, including international, Indigenous, and equity students, and early-career post-graduation support
- Set explicit performance expectations, shared priorities and consistent service models across portfolios
- Use employability data, student feedback and sector benchmarks (e.g. Graduate Outcomes Survey) to guide planning, monitor quality and drive continuous improvement

About You

- Be operating at a comparable senior leadership level with extensive demonstrated relevant experience in careers, employability, education, workforce development or a related field
- Bring established higher education employability expertise and understand Career Development Learning, Work Integrated Learning and graduate employability frameworks
- Possess strong professional networks within the higher education sector and ability to demonstrate leadership through influence rather than authority
- Be capable of connecting disparate initiatives into a cohesive institutional approach
- Have demonstrated experience leading the design,



planning and delivery of careers and employability initiatives in complex, multi-faceted higher education environment
- Have demonstrated ability to identify and interpret emerging trends, research and sector best practice in careers development, employability and education, and have provided strategic advice that informs strategic planning
- Have highly-developed stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with a proven ability to build trust and work constructively with senior academic and professional leaders
- Demonstrate Resilience, adaptability and sound judgement, with the demonstrated ability to operate effectively through complexity, ambiguity and change
- Have the ability to use data, evidence and insight to inform decision-making, drive continuous improvement and strengthen impact at scale

About the Portfolio

The Education Portfolio is headed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education and Vice President who leads the planning and implementation of the University's strategies related to RMIT's academic programs and the RMIT student experience. The Portfolio is responsible for services to support the quality of RMIT programs, including the professional development of academic staff, continuous improvement of the student experience, learning and teaching outcomes and the management of learning and research information sources.
