Firearms Services work in partnership with the State’s frontline police, fire and emergency services personnel to deliver a safe, secure and resilient Tasmania through providing high quality administration of the Firearms Act 1996, Firearms Regulations 2016 and some weapons related functions under the Police Offences Act 1935. The Project Officer will be required to undertake project related activities to plan, coordinate and deliver a range of projects and strategic initiatives in line with the Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management (DPFEM) business priorities.

Period of Appointment

Fixed Term - Full Time up until 30th June 2028

Hours per fortnight

73.5 hours per fortnight

Duties

Firearms Services work in partnership with the State’s frontline police, fire and emergency services personnel to deliver a secure, secure and resilient Tasmania through providing high quality administration of the Firearms Act 1996, Firearms Regulations 2016 and some weapons related functions under the Police Offences Act 1935. The Project Officer will be required to undertake project related activities to plan,



coordinate and deliver a range of projects and strategic initiatives in line with the Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management (DPFEM) business priorities.

Pre-Employment Checks

- Arson and fire setting;
- Sexual offences;
- Dishonesty (e.g. theft, burglary, breaking and entering, fraud);
- Deception (e.g. obtaining an advantage by deception);
- Violent crimes and crimes against the person;
- Malicious damage and destruction to property
- Trafficking of narcotic substance;

Essential qualifications have not been prescribed, however, successful completion of, or substantial progress towards, tertiary qualifications may be advantageous. Project management experience or qualifications are desirable.
