We are seeking an experienced and motivated Inventory Manager to join our leadership team at our Brisbane-based IGA Supermarket.
This is a hands-on management position responsible for the ordering, inventory management, merchandising, and overall performance of the Grocery, Gourmet, and Lifestyle departments . Reporting directly to the Store Manager, you will ensure exceptional stock availability, maximise sales opportunities, maintain strong gross profit, and lead a high-performing team committed to delivering outstanding customer service.
The successful candidate will have excellent organisational skills, strong commercial awareness, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced retail environment.

About the Role

Key ResponsibilitiesInventory & Purchasing
- Manage all ordering for Grocery, Gourmet, and Lifestyle departments.
- Maintain optimal stock levels while minimising overstocks and stock losses.
- Analyse sales trends, seasonal demand, promotional activity, and supplier opportunities when placing orders.
- Monitor inventory reports and key performance indicators to improve stock accuracy and availability.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
- Conduct regular stock takes and cycle counts.
- Manage slow-moving stock and implement strategies to reduce aged inventory.
- Ensure all inventory is managed in accordance with company procedures.
Department Performance
- Drive sales growth through effective stock management and merchandising.
- Maintain department gross profit targets through accurate ordering and profitable ranging.
- Identify opportunities to improve category performance.
- Ensure promotional activity is executed accurately and on time.
- Monitor product availability and minimise out-of-stock occurrences.
- Work closely with suppliers to maximise promotional and ranging opportunities.
Merchandising & Store Standards
- Ensure shelves are fully stocked, well presented, and compliant with merchandising standards.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, ticketing, pricing accuracy, and presentation.
- Coordinate department layouts and seasonal displays.
- Ensure all promotional ends and off-location displays are maintained to a high standard.
Leadership
- Lead, coach, and support the Grocery team.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and staff training.
- Allocate daily tasks and monitor team performance.
- Foster a positive, accountable, and customer-focused culture.
- Support the Store Manager in achieving overall store objectives.
Operations
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, workplace health and safety, and company policies.
- Monitor department wages and productivity.
- Liaise with suppliers and internal stakeholders regarding deliveries, shortages, and product issues.
- Assist with store opening,
closing, and duty manager responsibilities as required.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Previous supermarket management experience.
- Strong inventory management and ordering experience.
- Sound understanding of grocery merchandising and category management.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High level of organisation and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Intermediate computer skills and experience using retail inventory systems.
- Flexible availability, including weekends and public holidays where required.
Desirable:
- Experience within an IGA or independent supermarket.
- Knowledge of Metcash systems and ordering platforms.
- Experience managing large promotional programs.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
