Working across government, industry and international partners, the team develops and implements trade policy that supports Australia’s economic prosperity and strengthens relationships throughout the Indo-Pacific region.

The Opportunity

An exciting chance is available for an experienced EL1 or EL2 policy professional to lead a high-profile project.

Working within a strategic policy team, you will lead the development of a government report examining how Australia can better measure utilisation and improve data relating to First Nations participation and women’s participation in international trade.

This role offers the opportunity to influence future trade policy while engaging with senior government agencies, industry and community stakeholders on an issue of national significance.

The Role

You will lead a complex policy project from planning through to delivery, providing strategic advice and coordinating stakeholder engagement to support government decision-making.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Developing project methodologies, governance arrangements and delivery plans
- Researching and analysing trade data frameworks to identify policy and information gaps
- Preparing reports, ministerial briefs, submissions and strategic recommendations
- Consulting with agencies including the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Department of Home Affairs and other key stakeholders
- Facilitating workshops and engagement activities with industry,



businesses and First Nations organisations
- Assessing the feasibility, impacts and risks of proposed policy options
- Managing project milestones, risks and reporting to ensure successful delivery

The Ideal Person

You are an experienced policy leader with the ability to manage complex projects and provide strategic advice on challenging policy issues.

You are confident engaging with senior stakeholders and translating detailed research into practical recommendations for government.

You will bring:

- Significant experience in public policy, trade policy, economics, international relations or a related discipline
- Strong project leadership experience, including managing complex policy initiatives from planning to delivery
- Excellent analytical and research skills with the ability to develop evidence-based recommendations
- Highly developed written communication skills, including preparing briefs, reports and submissions for senior decision-makers
- Demonstrated experience building productive relationships across government, industry and external stakeholders
- An understanding of Australia’s trade policy framework, data analysis or free trade agreements will be highly regarded
- An NV1 Security Clearance (minimum)

Salary / Rate

- $95/hr – $120/hr + Super
- 12-month full-time contract
- Barton, ACT
- NV1 Security Clearance required
