Pit Patroller — Gudai‑Darri
Full‑time permanent position with amazing benefits. FIFO 8/6 – 7/7 from Perth & Busselton.
Overview
In this vital role, you’ll collaborate closely with Central Control to ensure the safety and efficiency of the pit operations. Known as “The Eyes of the Pit,” you’ll be responsible for surveying and refining roads and locations, responding to AHS faults, working alongside mobile plant operators to proactively manage pit conditions, and supporting supervisors with leadership duties as needed.
Responsibilities
- Undertake daily pre‑task risk assessments and perform all tasks in strict accordance with RTIO safety standards and procedures while championing a strong safety culture.
- Support the production leadership team by assisting with and executing PSI’s, leading field interactions, attending Plan of Day and grade control meetings, and collaborating with Central Control throughout your shift.
- Attend and correct AHT faults and obstacle detection events, monitor fleet performance, identify hazards, and communicate with supervisors/central control regarding safety and production constraints such as inclement weather, slippery or dusty environments, road conditions, dig unit moves, and assist in escorting unequipped vehicles safely through the AHT area.
- Survey and refine roads, dumps, and locations to ensure protected and efficient haulage; manage critical taught courses such as crusher, fuel bay, and park‑up locations; and secure and demarcate dumping and dig locations when not in use.
- Assist dig unit operators in improving spot times, continuously monitor windrow heights, conduct post‑blast inspections, perform demarcation and pit signage duties, support hot‑seating plans, and transport pit personnel to their work areas safely and on time.
- Provide training to other team members and actively engage in continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Experience as a Pit Patroller is essential.
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
- An Australian C‑class manual driver’s licence or higher.
- Ability to work safely and cooperatively in a team, demonstrating flexibility to business requirements.
- Must currently be residing in WA and possess proof of permanent Australian residency with full working rights without sponsorship.

Located 110 km north‑west of Newman, our Gudai‑Darri iron ore mine is our most technologically advanced mine, featuring autonomous trucks, trains, drills, and water carts.
