About the role

The Medical Practitioner (MP) provides and supervises medical care to prisoners. The MP may assist the Senior Medical Practitioner and/or the Director, Medical Services with research, preparation and development of new business opportunities. Activities of the MP are coordinated by the Senior Medical Practitioner or the Director, Medical Services as appropriate. The role requires all duties to be performed in accordance with the GEO Healthcare and GEO Healthcare Plus Values.

Location and Salary

Full‑time and part‑time positions available at Ravenhall Correctional Centre. Full‑time salary: $300,000 plus superannuation and loadings; part‑time pro‑rata.

Responsibilities

- Provide comprehensive medical care to prisoners.
- Supervise and support medical staff as required.
- Assist in the research, preparation and development of new services.
- Coordinate medical activities under direction of senior leadership.
- Maintain compliance with organisational values and professional standards.

Qualifications

- Registered medical practitioner by the Medical Board of Australia (effective 1 July 2010 or later).
- Documentary evidence of medical indemnity insurance.
- Minimum of 5 years post‑graduate experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.




- Experience in mental health, drug and alcohol, and emergency care.
- Demonstrated competence in provision of high‑quality care.
- Willingness to undertake regular career development relevant to the position.
- Computer skills relevant to the role.

Other Requirements

- Valid and current Australian driver’s licence.
- Ability to work within a correctional setting, involving direct contact with prisoners.
- Satisfactory completion of a National Criminal History Check.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Required to work outside ordinary business hours at times.
