The Role

The advertised post is for a Clinical Technologist within the Medical Physics Department based within University Hospital Wishaw. The service includes the installation, commissioning, calibration, performance assurance and repair of a wide range of medical equipment. In addition, staff undertake duties in accordance with the quality system operated.

- A demonstrable knowledge of electrical, electronic or engineering principles to carry out the servicing/repair/clinical support (assisting users in the operation of the medical equipment) on medical equipment.
- Knowledge of Electrical Safety or PAT Testing, IT/software and specialist test equipment with practical experience on the maintenance & repair of medical equipment.
- Experience of engineering workplace practice and techniques including Health and Safety Regulations, working knowledge of relevant legislation, national standards, skilled and other guidelines and working within Quality management systems.




- This post will also include driving to Community Health Facilities etc. to perform the above duties.

The working pattern for this role is a fixed five‑day shift pattern: Monday – Thursday (08:45-16:45) and Friday (08:45-16:30).

In This Key Role, You Will

- Liaise with clinicians, surgical staff & clinical users to gain a clear understanding of the nature of problems and difficulties experienced with medical equipment during use, assessing the nature of the problem and responding appropriately to the urgency of the user request.
- Undertake fault finding on complex medical devices to board or component level as appropriate. Apply suitable fault‑finding techniques to diagnose problems, including those beyond the scope of manufacturer‑supplied information. Report novel fault conditions to manufacturers. Exercise judgement to determine the causes of faults in devices with multiple, complex and inter‑related systems (e.g. electronic, computer and mechanical systems), which may be due to user error, equipment failure or environmental issues (e.g. temperature, radio‑frequency interference).
- Undertake repairs on complex mechanisms to component level where appropriate.




- Check that equipment performs to manufacturer’s specification.

What You’ll Bring

- Degree in Applied Physics or Electrical and Electronic Engineering or ONC/HNC/HND with equivalent technical experience working in a technical or engineering discipline.
- Knowledge of maintaining and repairing electro‑medical equipment in a healthcare setting, dependent on qualification held by the post holder.
- Good technical knowledge & problem‑solving skills.
- Basic knowledge of human physiology.
- A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
