Position Overview

J. J. Cahill Memorial High School is in Mascot, a fast‑growing residential area. The school focuses on community, literacy and numeracy, and delivers quality teaching and learning supported by evidence‑based practices and improved student learning outcomes. It promotes engagement, challenges students to strive for success, and adopts a trauma‑informed, strengths‑based approach to learning. The school supports a diverse student population, including Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, EAL/D and students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities or autism. It also prioritises whole‑student development, wellbeing programmes, professional learning for staff, and external expertise and support. The school seeks to identify and nurture the potential of all students across intellectual, creative, physical, social and emotional domains, providing opportunities for talent development both inside and outside the classroom.

Responsibilities & Selection Criteria

- Approval to teach Library or currently undertaking or currently enrolled in Library qualifications approved by the NSW Department of Education.
- Demonstrated skill in managing a school library, including library management systems,



digital technologies and implementation of whole‑school events and programmes aligned with the teacher librarian role.
- Capacity to promote and sustain a whole‑school culture of reading by engaging students and staff in literary experiences, reading initiatives and programmes that support lifelong reading habits.
- Highly interpersonal skills and the ability to make evidence‑based decisions in curating a collection to build and sustain engagement by raising the profile of an inclusive and creative library space.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
