Position Information

About the Role

School psychologists are essential to the Department’s school counselling service. They provide counseling and psychological assessment of students, helping teachers strengthen learning and wellbeing outcomes, and supporting families with children’s mental health needs.

This role offers opportunities for professional development and making a visible impact on children and young people.

Work at Mainsbridge School with a diverse student body, providing services to primary and high school aged students and students with intellectual, physical, and complex health needs.

Supervision will be provided by the Senior Psychologist Education and participation in group and peer supervision.

Key Accountabilities

- Provide counseling and psychological services to students, both individually and in groups,



including short‑term therapeutic interventions within the scope of training, experience, and supervision.
- Engage with and implement the procedures of the Professional Practice Framework for the NSW School Counselling Service.
- Consult with the principal, school executive, staff, and student support services to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes and implement departmental priorities.
- Contribute to social, emotional, and academic development of students and support those with complex behavioural needs.
- Administer cognitive, social, emotional and behavioural assessments, report results, and collaborate to improve learning and wellbeing outcomes.
- Collaborate with learning and support teams, parents/carers, and other agencies to develop school‑based support for students.
- Respond as part of a team to assist schools experiencing serious incidents.
- Refer students and/or their families and carers to other agencies to support students’ health and wellbeing.

Essential Requirements

- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy, Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG Inc., and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategy.
- General or provisional Psychology Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.




- Valid and current Working with Children Check clearance – WWCC (NSW).
- Current and valid driver’s licence with ability to travel between work sites.
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency.

Total Remuneration Package

Package valued up to $182,461 + incentives where applicable. Base salary ranges from $101,122 to $160,983 plus leave loading and employer’s contribution to superannuation. Base salary rates above the minimum are available dependent on professional experience. Note there is no automatic progression to the $160,983 SPAC salary level.
