The Opportunity

DASA is looking forfull-time Alcohol & Other Drug Workers based inMarble Point (Umbakumba), Groote Eylandt, NT .

Reporting to the Service Manager, this role provides culturally safe, trauma-informed residential support to Aboriginal men participating in the Alternative to Custody (ATC) program. You will assist in daily program delivery, resident care, and community reintegration efforts.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Supporting residents with their goals and aspirations while fostering independence
- Applying harm reduction, early intervention and relapse prevention strategies
- Facilitate referrals to health, housing, mental health, and justice-related services, or other services that address any domains of wellbeing for residents
- Work closely with Aboriginal community members, Elders, and local organisations to ensure culturally appropriate service delivery
- Conducting alcohol and drug testing, and property searches, as required

- Facilitating group education sessions and engaging residents in meaningful day-to-day activities
- Ensuring a safe and welcoming environment by maintaining facilities, vehicles, and assets
- Recording and maintaining accurate case notes, handover reports, and other required documentation
- Administering medication in accordance with policies and guidelines
- Deliver culturally responsive AOD support, including intake, care planning and case management
- Providing safe transport for residents to appointments, meetings, and outings
- Adhering to workplace health and safety regulations, policies, and confidentiality requirements
- Participating in a 24/7 rotating roster, including sleepover shifts, weekends, and public holidays

About You

To be successful in this role, you will hold aCertificate IV or Diploma in Community Services ( or be willing to undertake this qualification).Current First Aid and CPR certification are essential, as is avalid NT Driver’s Licence and a Working With Children Check (Ochre Card). You will also need a4WD certificate or a willingness to complete this training as part of your onboarding.

Selection Criteria

Essential

- Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs (Or similar), or willingness to obtain




- Experience working with people impacted by alcohol and other drug use
- Strong understanding of culturally safe, trauma informed, and healing informed practice
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in remote Aboriginal Community settings
- Strong communication skills and ability to build trust with diverse clients
- Ability to manage complex needs and respond to crisis situations
- Willing & able to facilitate group sessions on topic of expertise

Desirable

- Lived or living experience of AOD recovery
- Experience working within justice-related programs or with justice-involved clients
- Knowledge of Groote Eylandt communities, culture and service systems
- Experience in delivering wellbeing programs or supporting clients to improve their overall wellbeing
