About This Role

The Department of Justice and Community Safety’s Youth Justice unit is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in Victoria, focusing on prevention, diversion and early intervention. Youth Justice staff work across custodial, community, court and regional settings, supporting a culturally responsive and trauma‑informed workforce.

Opportunity

Ongoing full‑time position based in Melbourne CBD with regular travel to regional offices and precincts. A VPS 4 role offering an annual salary of $100,894 – $114,476 plus superannuation.

Responsibilities

- Deliver clinical training and skill‑building initiatives to enhance the capability of Youth Justice staff.
- Co‑design and continuously improve training materials, incorporating multicultural and multifaith perspectives.
- Plan, adapt and facilitate clinical learning sessions applying child and youth development theory and trauma‑informed practice.
- Provide coaching and constructive feedback to embed skills and support a culture of continuous learning.
- Respond to participant disclosures, balancing individual support with cohort safety and facilitating timely referrals to wellbeing services.
- Exercise professional judgement to develop and adapt targeted learning interventions within departmental guidelines.
- Adapt facilitation style and content to diverse audiences and operational settings across multiple locations.

Qualifications and Experience

- Relevant qualification in psychology, social work or a related field with demonstrated practice experience in a youth justice context.




- Proven expertise in delivering multicultural and multifaith training that fosters inclusive and trauma‑informed approaches.
- Ability to deliver engaging clinical training, applying sound theoretical and practical knowledge of child and youth development, cultural safety and trauma‑informed practice.
- Proficiency in evidence‑based techniques such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, with the ability to translate these into skills‑based training.
- Experience coaching and providing feedback to embed essential skills among frontline staff.
- Capacity to adapt facilitation style and manage delivery across multiple settings.
- Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel regularly.
