About the opportunity

Are you a Controls Engineer or Senior Controls Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and working on systems where your expertise can make a real difference?

Based in Clayton, this permanent full-time chance will see you collaborate with engineers, scientists, and technical specialists to design, develop, integrate and support complex systems that enable critical technology and research outcomes.

Responsibilities

You will contribute across the full lifecycle of control and safety systems, including:

- Designing, developing and supporting control, automation and safety systems
- Working with technologies including motion control, data acquisition, distributed and real-time control systems
- Integrating, testing and commissioning hardware and software solutions
- Investigating and resolving technical issues to maintain reliable system performance
- Supporting engineering projects from design through to implementation and delivery
- Collaborating with engineers, scientists and technical specialists to deliver integrated solutions
- Contributing to system improvements, upgrades, design reviews and engineering standards

For Senior Controls Engineers, you will additionally provide technical leadership across complex system design, integration decisions, technical reviews and delivery activities.

Qualifications

- Australian Citizenship
- Willingness to undergo and obtain security clearance
- A degree qualification in Engineering or a related technical discipline

What you'll bring

- Experience with control, automation or safety-related systems




- Experience with PLC-based systems, motion control, instrumentation, data acquisition or real-time control environments
- Programming experience with PLC platforms and/or languages such as Python, C/C++ or Linux-based systems
- Experience with testing, commissioning and troubleshooting integrated systems
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and engineering documentation
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams

Desirable Experience

- Complex control system design and integration
- Industrial communication protocols including EtherCAT, PROFINET, OPC-UA or Modbus
- Control platforms such as EPICS, Siemens TIA Portal, Beckhoff, Schneider, Tango or similar
- Functional safety standards including IEC 61508 and AS4024
- Machine safety, safe motion systems or robotics applications
- Engineering design tools such as AutoCAD, Altium, Zuken E3 or equivalent
- Familiarity with Agile development practices and collaboration tools (JIRA, Confluence)
