Location
South East Regional Hospital (SERH), Bega, NSW. SERH is a newly built regional referral centre with 3 operating theatres, an ICU, 5 inpatient wards and outpatient services, serving the south coast regions.
What you'll be doing
The Orthopaedic Unaccredited Trainee is responsible for day‑to‑day management of Orthopaedic inpatients, providing an on‑call service for SERH and 3 surrounding hospitals. The role includes supervising resident medical officers and rotating medical students from ANU Medical School.
Tasks include:
- Daily on‑call rotations, acute orthopaedic emergency management, elective and emergency operating lists, and outpatient clinics.
- Regular educational activities such as journal clubs, X‑ray meetings, teaching sessions, quarterly Morbidity and Mortality meetings, and research projects.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and providing appropriate communication across services.
Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Demonstrated ability to complete rotations as allocated and required.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment, utilizing excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multi‑disciplinary teams, including sharing appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style to meet the needs of diverse audiences.
- Ability to prioritize workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
- Ongoing commitment to further self‑education and career development.
- At least three years of post‑graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent).
Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases
This is a Category 'A' position. All new employees must comply with NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015, including proof of vaccination against influenza and other required vaccinations for staff working in Residential Aged Care Facilities.
