Are you an experienced HSE leader who thrives in complex operational and construction environments? We are seeking a Manager - Health, Safety & Environment (Field) to lead a team of HSE professionals supporting critical assets, major projects, and contractor operations across a geographically diverse network. This is a strategic and hands‑on leadership opportunity for someone passionate about building high‑performing teams, strengthening risk management practices, and creating a positive safety culture.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of HSE & Risk, you will provide leadership and direction to a team of Field HSE Advisors while partnering closely with operational leaders, project teams, and contractors. This role plays a key part in ensuring safe, compliant, and sustainable project delivery through robust field assurance activities, contractor engagement, critical control verification, and practical risk management support. Success in this position will be defined by your ability to influence at all levels, develop team capability, and create a strong field presence that promotes proactive safety leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

- Lead the implementation of HSE strategy across field operations and major projects.
- Drive a positive, high‑performing safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and visible leadership.
- Partner with operational leaders and contractors to strengthen risk ownership and critical control management.
- Contribute to business planning and strategic priorities.
- Build robust internal and external stakeholder relationships and maintain awareness of industry best practice.

People Leadership

- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of HSE professionals.




- Establish clear performance expectations and development plans.
- Build capability in risk management, assurance, investigations, and operational leadership.
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high‑performance team environment.

Operational & Technical Leadership

- Oversee field‑based HSE activities across operational and construction environments.
- Lead assurance programs including audits, inspections, compliance monitoring, and performance reporting.
- Ensure effective management of contractor HSE performance throughout project lifecycles.
- Provide expert advice on HSE legislation, standards, and compliance requirements.
- Support incident investigations and ensure lessons learned are embedded into business practices.
- Drive continuous improvement through data analysis, reporting insights, and digital solutions.

About You

You are a respected HSE leader with a proven track record in large-scale construction, infrastructure, utilities, energy, mining, or other high-risk industries. You bring:

- Extensive experience leading field‑based HSE teams.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary HSE principles and safety leadership practices.
- Expertise in risk management, assurance, auditing, and verification of critical controls.
- Demonstrated experience managing contractor and principal contractor relationships.
- Strong understanding of high-risk construction activities including permits, isolations, lifting operations, working at heights, and mobile plant interactions.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and influencing skills.




- Experience driving organisational change and continuous improvement initiatives.
- The ability to make sound decisions, challenge constructively, and positively influence outcomes.

Desired Experience

- 10+ years’ experience in HSE leadership roles.
- Experience within infrastructure, utilities, energy, construction, major projects, or related sectors.
- Knowledge of ICAM or similar incident investigation methodologies.
- Construction industry exposure and relevant site‑based credentials highly regarded.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.
