We are partnering with a scaling and well-funded healthcare technology company to find a Software Quality Engineer to shape quality across the entire product lifecycle. This is a role for an automation-first craftsperson, who views test code with the same rigor as production code, and who thrives in highly regulated environments.

About the role

As a Software Quality Engineer, you will be embedded directly into a cross-functional delivery squad alongside four product engineers. Quality in this team is not an end-of-the-line checkpoint; you will be an equal partner shaping the product from the first moment of discovery. You will act as part craftsperson, part trusted advisor, and part evidence steward, helping the team build the right features, proving they work, and producing the rigorous objective evidence required to bring medical software safely to clinicians and patients.

The team will rely on you to

- Bring a critical failure-mode lens to sprint planning and co-author comprehensive acceptance criteria for current features utilizing a BDD/Gherkin workflow.
- Design, write, and maintain clean, reliable end-to-end and component automated tests using Cypress and TypeScript against a React frontend and REST APIs.
- Perform pragmatic manual and exploratory testing, particularly when hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) constraints prevent automation.
- Author and execute rigorous verification protocols to produce defensible regulatory evidence of conformance.

- Act as the team's Evidence Steward, accountable for the collation and quality of audit trails required for FDA and international compliance, utilizing Jira and Xray.
- Partner closely with engineers to triage defects, determine root causes, and solve issues collaboratively rather than throwing them over the wall.
- Ensure code quality is enforced through CI integration (producing JUnit reports) and pre-commit hooks (Husky, ESLint).

Ideally you have

- 5+ years of experience in software quality engineering, with a heavy focus on test automation.
- Demonstrable experience working embedded within an Agile delivery squad as a peer to software engineers.
- Strong programming proficiency in TypeScript and extensive experience using Cypress for E2E and component testing.
- Experience with Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) using Cucumber/Gherkin.
- Experience operating in highly regulated environments (such as medical devices, aviation, or finance) and familiarity with standards like IEC 62304 and ISO 13485.
- A graduate degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent technical field.

Bonus points if you also have

- Direct experience with US FDA medical device regulations including 21 CFR Part 820 and Part 11.
- Deep experience managing tests and traceability matrices within Jira and Xray.
- Working knowledge of CI test reporting (JUnit) and pre-commit quality tooling.
