As Delta continues expanding its integrated BESS solutions business across Australia and Oceania, we are establishing a dedicated engineering capability focused on grid connection, compliance and system integration for utility‑scale and large commercial & industrial (C&I;) energy storage projects.

Role Purpose

The Grid Connection Engineer will lead and support all technical activities associated with grid connection and compliance of Delta’s BESS solutions within the National Electricity Market (NEM) and, preferably, the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM). The role focuses on ensuring successful connection approval, technical compliance and commissioning of inverter‑based resources (IBRs), while supporting pre‑sales, project execution and long‑term operational compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Grid Connection & Compliance

- Lead grid connection activities for BESS projects across the NEM and support WEM applications where required.
- Manage and coordinate Generator Performance Standard (GPS) development and negotiation processes with AEMO, NSPs, DNSPs and consultants.
- Coordinate preparation and submission of grid connection packages including R1/R2 modelling and compliance documentation.
- Review and manage PSCAD, PSS E and other power system studies performed by external consultants.
- Support performance assessment and compliance testing during commissioning and registration phases.
- Interface with customers, consultants, EPCs and network service providers regarding technical connection requirements and project compliance.
- Monitor changes to the National Electricity Rules (NER), AEMO guidelines and NSP technical standards affecting BESS and inverter‑based resources.

System Integration & Technical Engineering

- Support development of integrated BESS solutions including PCS, EMS, PPC, transformers, protection systems and balance of plant.
- Review electrical system architecture, SLDs, protection philosophies and control strategies to ensure grid compliance.

- Collaborate with internal engineering and product teams to optimise system performance and compliance capability.
- Support integration and tuning of EMS and PPC functionalities including:
- Frequency response
- Voltage control
- Ramp rate control
- FCAS capability
- Grid‑forming and grid‑following operation
- Participate in FAT, SAT and commissioning activities related to grid compliance and plant performance validation.

Pre‑Sales & Technical Support

- Support technical review of RFQs/RFTs/RFIs for utility and large C&I; BESS opportunities.
- Provide technical guidance regarding connection risks, compliance requirements and project viability during bid development.
- Assist with customer presentations, technical workshops and compliance discussions during the sales cycle.
- Contribute to development of standardised grid connection strategies and repeatable sub‑5 MW BESS designs.

Internal Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

- Work closely with global R&D; and product management teams to provide feedback from Australian grid requirements and project experience.
- Develop internal best practices, templates and engineering procedures for grid connection and compliance workflows.
- Mentor junior engineers on Australian grid connection processes, GPS development and inverter‑based resource compliance.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to modelling, compliance management and project delivery efficiency.

Required Qualifications & Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5–10+ years of relevant experience in power systems, renewable energy or grid connection engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working on inverter‑based resources (BESS, solar PV or wind).
- Demonstrated experience with grid connection processes within the NEM, including interaction with AEMO and NSPs.
- Experience supporting or managing GPS negotiations and R1/R2 submission processes.

- Proven experience reviewing or coordinating power system studies including:
- Load flow
- Harmonic studies
- Experience working with OEMs, EPCs, developers or consultants delivering utility‑scale renewable or BESS projects is highly desirable.
