Senior Software Developer

The Department is seeking to engage multiple software development resources for various roles within the Enterprise Platforms Branch. Successful candidates may be involved in undertaking a project to modernise a suite of business-critical revenue processing applications that support biosecurity cost recovery and financial management functions or be involved a delivery of application support and development relating the department's Intranet and Instructional Material Library.

The existing revenue applications are based on legacy Microsoft .NET Framework technologies and require redevelopment and migration to a contemporary cloud-ready architecture aligned with modern standards and departmental technology objectives.

The Intranet and Instructional Material Library are hosted in SharePoint online with custom SPFx SharePoint webparts and complex Power Automate cloud flows.

To support delivery of these initiatives, the Department requires a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Software Developers to provide specialist application development services. Working within a multidisciplinary project team, the successful candidate will contribute to the analysis, design, development, testing and implementation of modern application solutions, while supporting the migration of critical business functionality from legacy platforms to modern technologies.

The role will contribute to the delivery of secure, maintainable and scalable solutions that align with departmental architecture, cyber security requirements and Azure cloud hosting patterns. The engagement will support the successful delivery of project outcomes, reduce business and operational risk associated with ageing technology,



and help establish a sustainable foundation for future revenue processing capabilities.

This role requires an individual who can operate effectively within an agile delivery environment, work collaboratively with business and technical stakeholders, and apply contemporary software engineering practices to complex application modernisation activities. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute technical expertise, provide informed advice and support delivery outcomes.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

General duties and responsibilities for either role:

- Analyse existing application functionality, source code, integrations and business processes to support modernisation and migration activities.
- Participate in discovery, solution design, development, testing, implementation and deployment activities across the project lifecycle.
- Develop, enhance and maintain software components using approved departmental development standards, frameworks and patterns.
- Develop APIs, business services, user interface components and supporting integrations required to deliver project outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, architects, business analysts, testers, platform engineers and business stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Contribute to solution design activities, including technical assessments, effort estimates, and identification of delivery risks and dependencies.
- Develop and maintain automated build, deployment and release processes to support efficient and reliable software delivery.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, design artefacts, support procedures and knowledge transfer materials.
- Participate in code reviews, testing activities, defect resolution and quality assurance processes to ensure delivery of high-quality outcomes.

Revenue systems developer duties and responsibilities:





- Support the migration of legacy applications from .NET Framework-based technologies to modern cloud-ready solutions.

Web systems developer duties and responsibilities:

- Build and enhance solutions in the M365 Power Platform.

Build and upgrade custom SharePoint webparts using the SPFx framework.

Technical Skills

A candidate must demonstrate relevant skills for at least one of the roles. Revenue systems developer technical skills:

- Demonstrated experience in C#, .NET Framework and modern .NET development, ASP.NET Core, REST API development, Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong understanding of application modernisation, secure software development, authentication and authorisation, source control practices, and agile delivery methodologies.

About the project

The Department is undertaking a significant application modernisation initiative to replace and uplift a suite of legacy business systems that support critical regulatory and financial operations. The project will transition existing applications from ageing technologies to a modern, secure and cloud-ready architecture aligned with contemporary software engineering practices and departmental technology standards. The project encompasses application discovery, solution design, software development, testing, deployment automation and production implementation. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary delivery team supporting the design and development of contemporary digital services that improve maintainability, security, operational resilience and long-term sustainability.

Work Arrangements

Hybrid - Flexible working arrangements, including working away from the office is available. A minimum of two days working on site in the Canberra DAFF office is required.
