Opportunity
Join the School of Computer Science and Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW as a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in a teaching and research role. You will conduct research in databases and related areas, including human‑centric databases such as crowdsourced and collaborative database systems, vector databases and high‑dimensional databases for scientific discovery. Through your research you will contribute to high‑impact scholarly outcomes, collaborative research initiatives and the School’s growing international reputation in data management and database systems. About You
You are an emerging or established academic with expertise in database systems and a passion for both research and teaching. You will have the ability to contribute to high‑quality research outcomes while delivering engaging and innovative learning experiences for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research in databases and related areas.
- Publish high‑impact scholarly work and engage in collaborative research initiatives.
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses, delivering engaging and innovative learning experiences.
- Support student learning and participate in curriculum development.
- Participate in academic leadership and mentoring.
Qualifications – Lecturer (Level B)
- A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
- Proven commitment to keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
- Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence.
- Knowledge of industry or experience of work‑integrated learning (desirable).
- Ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Qualifications – Senior Lecturer (Level C)
- A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
- Proven commitment to keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design using a range of pedagogical approaches, development and delivery of courses and programs at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- Experience implementing educational technologies and online delivery methods.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence and fostering this in others.
- Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement.
- Experience with industry or work‑integrated learning.
- Ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
- Demonstrated track record in research with high‑quality, high‑impact outcomes and evidence of research leadership.
- Experience in recruiting and supervising high calibre students.
- Ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
- Highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Ability to interact with the profession and industry and attract funding for learning and teaching initiatives.
- Understanding of UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant training.
