The role
As the Senior Analyst, you will perform prudential supervision and risk assessment across a defined group of supervised banks to achieve APRA's objective of providing a prudentially sound financial system.
The team
The General Insurance and Banking Division is responsible for the supervision of all general insurers and authorised deposit-taking institutions (ADIs). The Division supports APRA's core function through prudential supervision and risk assessment activities to support the government and APRA's objective of maintaining the safety and stability in the financial system. Focusing on "getting the balance right" to ensure our regulation is efficient and proportionate.
As a key member of the supervision team, you will conduct risk analysis and collaborate with a wide range of internal stakeholders, including risk specialists and other divisions of APRA to deliver the effective supervision of defined group of organisations. You will also engage externally with Government departments, other regulatory agencies, industry associations and regulated entities.
Key responsibilities
- Proactively identify and communicate issues and developments to key stakeholders, escalating risks and concerns as appropriate;
- Applies strong understanding of frameworks/ standards/ legislation/ codes and the risks they seek to mitigate;
- Examining the internal structure and business relationships of supervised organisations, giving focus to those areas that carry high risk;
- Engage with supervised organisations to assess the quality of management, strategies, practices and systems;
- Foster and maintain good relationships with key stakeholders and other regulatory agencies; and
- Contributing to policy on regulation through collaborative engagement with stakeholders in APRA and from the financial sector and other government agencies.

- A robust understanding of the banking sector and prudential framework;
- Strong financial analysis, investigative and research skills;
- Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills to develop solutions for complex issues;
- Ability to influence and negotiate with key stakeholders internal and external and at levels;
- A team player with a positive mindset and an energetic approach;
- Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to exercise good judgment to prioritise and deliver on multiple responsibilities;
- Understanding of the APRA mission, objectives and functions; and
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
