Our Process

2. We present your profile to our network of NDIS and aged care providers.

3. Providers contact you directly. You review the work and decide whether it suits you.

What a Handyperson Does in NDIS and Aged Care

Handypersons tackle everyday home maintenance tasks that keep a house safe and livable—such as fixing a sticking door, assembling furniture, hanging grab rails, patching walls, replacing tap washers, changing smoke detector batteries, touching up paint, or clearing a blocked drain. You identify when a job is beyond your scope and flag it to the participant and provider.

Participants are often older Australians or NDIS participants who cannot manage these tasks independently. A dependable handyperson visit is essential for their safety and well‑being.

What Providers Look For

Providers seek handypersons who are competent, reliable, and good with people. Working in occupied homes means you must communicate clearly, work at a pace suited to the participant, and leave the space tidy.

A White Card is required for any construction‑related work, even minor. Your Police Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check must be current.

Required Qualifications

- Solid experience in home maintenance and minor repairs
- Competence across basic carpentry, general fixes, and minor installations
- Safe use of hand tools and power tools
- Ability to identify when a job requires a licensed tradesperson
- Good problem‑solving skills and practical thinking




- Comfortable working in occupied homes and communicating with participants
- Reliable transport and current driver’s licence
- Understanding of safe work practices in a home workplace

Checks and Credentials

- Police Check – varies by state, around $110 to $160, valid 5 years, 4 to 8 weeks to process
- NDIS Worker Screening Check – varies, around $50 to $80, valid 3 years (renewed by employers), often issued within days
- White Card – around $80 to $150, valid indefinitely with ongoing work; 1‑day course
- CPR/First Aid – around $90 to $160, 1‑day course, valid 3 years (refresh CPR every 12 months)
- Fire Safety – free to around $150 (often provided by employer), half‑day to 1‑day course, refreshed annually
- Driver’s licence & reliable vehicle – recommended
- Licence renewal – varies, around $30 to $100 per year, must remain current

Pay Rates

- Weekday: $27 to $32 an hour
- Saturday: $40 to $48 an hour
- Sunday: $53 to $63 an hour
- Public holiday: $66 to $79 an hour
- Casual employees receive a 25% loading on top of these rates (often quoted as roughly $34 to $40 an hour for ordinary casual hours)

Does it cost anything to register? No. Registering your availability with Carevo is free for workers. There are no agency fees and no charge to be presented to providers in our network.

What do I need to start handyperson work? Most handyperson roles need a current Police Check and an NDIS Worker Screening Check, plus any role‑specific qualifications. You can register your interest before every check is finalised and let providers know what is still in progress.

How soon will providers contact me? It depends on demand in your area and on your availability and credentials. Providers in the Carevo network review registered workers regularly and reach out directly when your profile matches what they need.

Do I have to accept work that is offered? No. You choose which providers to talk to and which work to take on. Registering simply makes you visible to providers hiring near you.
