About the Role

Part Time: 0.4 FTE (Full time equivalent).

Location: Inverell High School.

School psychologists are an essential part of the Department’s school counselling service and work in primary and high schools. They provide counselling and psychological assessment of students to complement and enhance teachers' work, strengthening student learning and wellbeing outcomes and helping families manage their children’s learning and mental health needs.

This role offers unique challenges and opportunities for professional development and making an impact on the lives of children and young people.

The successful candidate will be based at Inverell High School and will work across primary and high school aged students. Working in NSW public school enables engagement with a diverse student community, allowing a school psychologist to use their skills to make a real difference at a time when it matters most.

School psychologists receive individual professional supervision with the Senior Psychologist Education and participate in group and peer supervision within the broader school counselling team. Collaboration with school communities, colleagues, and outside agencies expands the full range of skills in a supportive, multidisciplinary team.





School psychologists participate in continuing professional development, and the NSW Department of Education supports completion of registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Key Accountabilities

- Provide counselling and psychological services to students, both individually and in groups, including short‑term therapeutic interventions within the scope of training, experience, and supervision.
- Engage with and implement the Professional Practice Framework for the NSW School Counselling Service procedures.
- Work in consultation with the principal, school executive, staff, and student support services to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes and implement departmental priorities.
- Contribute to the social, emotional, and academic development of students and support schools and students with complex behavioural needs.
- Administer cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioural assessments of students, report results, and collaborate to improve learning, wellbeing, and mental health outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with learning and support teams, parents and carers, and other agencies to develop appropriate school‑based support for students.




- Respond as part of a team to assist schools experiencing serious incidents.
- Refer students and/or their families and carers to other agencies that will support the development of student health and wellbeing outcomes.

Essential Requirements

- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy, Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG Inc., and the Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.
- General or Provisional Psychology Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
- Valid and current Working with Children Check clearance – NSW.
- Current and valid driver’s licence with the ability and willingness to travel between work sites; must hold an unrestricted provisional or full licence.
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency.

Base salary ranges from $101,122 to $160,983 plus leave loading and employer superannuation contribution.
