About the team
/n
The 2032 Games Coordination team is responsible for coordinating the City's role as a Games Delivery Partner for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
/n
The team works across the organisation and with external partners to ensure the City delivers on its commitments while positioning long-term legacy outcomes for the Gold Coast.
/n
About the role
/n
This is a fixed term position that concludes on 17 December 2032.
/n
The Senior Overlay Officer plays a critical role in planning and delivering the City's Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games time presentation across precincts, ensuring a cohesive, high-quality "overlay and look" aligned with Brisbane 2032 requirements.
/n
This role integrates precinct design, wayfinding, temporary structures, and movement planning with transport, accessibility and operational requirements. It ensures Games-time environments are functional, accessible, safe and visually aligned with City and Games branding.
/n
Working across internal teams and external delivery partners, the role translates high-level precinct concepts into detailed spatial plans, site layouts, and deliverable work packages using GIS and mapping tools.
/n
The position contributes directly to the City's obligations under the Delivery Partner Guarantee/Partner Deed and supports the successful delivery of the City Readiness & Operations program.
/n
What you'll be doing
/n
/n
- Lead the planning and delivery of precinct overlay and presentation, including venue approaches, live sites and activation spaces
/n
- Develop and implement the City's "look and feel", including banners, lighting, floral programs and accessibility elements
/n
- Design and coordinate wayfinding and signage strategies, ensuring clarity, consistency and compliance with Games branding
/n
- Specify and manage temporary structures (shade, seating, shelters, queueing systems) ensuring safety, accessibility and operational efficiency
/n
- Plan and coordinate spectator and workforce movement,
aligning with transport plans, Games Route Network and precinct flows
/n
- Utilise GIS and spatial mapping tools to translate design concepts into detailed site layouts and deliverable work packages
/n
- Coordinate cross-functional inputs across internal teams (e.g. Cleaning, Regulatory Services, Transport, City Venues) and external delivery partners
/n
- Support permits, approvals and land-use coordination, ensuring compliance with regulatory and brand/IP requirements
/n
- Monitor and report on program milestones and delivery progress aligned with City Readiness & Operations
/n
- Provide practical, design-led advice to support high-quality, operationally deliverable outcomes across Games precincts
/n/n
We're looking for people who have:
/n
/n
- Experience delivering precinct design, urban realm or event overlay outcomes in complex environments
/n
- Ability to translate concepts into practical, detailed site plans and operational layouts
/n
- Capability in GIS / spatial mapping tools to support planning and on-ground delivery
/n
- Understanding of crowd movement, access and transport interfaces for large-scale events or spaces
/n
- Strong experience working across multi-disciplinary teams and external partners to achieve integrated outcomes
/n
- Knowledge of approvals, permits and compliance processes within a public sector or major event context
/n
- Well-developed stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
/n
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results
/n/n
Mandatory qualifications/ requirements:
/n
/n
- Bachelor Degree in Urban Planning/Urban Design/Architecture/Industrial or Graphic Design, or relevant experience in precinct design and event overlay.
/n
- Demonstrated experience delivering city presentation/urban realm outcomes for major events (precinct planning, overlay & look, wayfinding/signage, temporary structures) and converting them into detailed operational work plans and schedules.
/n
- Proficiency with spatial/GIS mapping (e.g., plotting assets/overlay, producing site layouts) to guide field crews and contractors.
/n
- Proven coordination across multidisciplinary internal teams and external delivery partners, including progressing permits/approvals and brand/IP compliance.
/n
- Experience designing crowd movement/transport interfaces for large events, informed by international host‐city practices (e.g., mobility/spectator flow models).
