UGL is seeking a qualified and safety-focused Electrician to join our Operations & Maintenance (O&M;) team at the Collie Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Western Australia. Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor, you will be responsible for the safe operation, inspection, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment and systems across the BESS facility. Working in a high-risk industrial environment, you'll bring robust technical capability, a proactive approach to safety, and a commitment to operational excellence.
About the Role
As an Electrician within the O&M; team, you will support the ongoing reliability, availability and performance of the Collie BESS facility through preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
This role requires a hands‑on electrician who can work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Technical
- Perform preventative, corrective and breakdown maintenance on BESS electrical systems and associated infrastructure
- Diagnose electrical faults and implement timely, effective repairs to minimise downtime
- Conduct testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and verification of electrical equipment and systems
- Install, maintain and repair switchboards, switchgear, control systems, cabling, earthing systems and associated electrical assets
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation
- Complete routine inspections and condition monitoring activities
- Ensure all electrical works are carried out in accordance with applicable legislation, standards and site procedures
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports and work management documentation
- Support outage planning and execution activities when required
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to enhance asset reliability and operational performance
- Provide technical support and guidance to apprentices and trades assistants where required
Safety & Compliance
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to health, safety and environmental management
- Participate in pre‑start meetings, risk assessments, JSAs and safety briefings
- Follow all site safety procedures, permits, isolations and lock‑out/tag‑out requirements
- Use appropriate PPE and safety systems at all times
- Identify and report hazards, incidents and near misses
- Contribute to a positive safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with all UGL and client policies, procedures and operational requirements
Team & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance and contractor teams
- Participate in training, competency development and ongoing learning opportunities
- Maintain a professional approach and represent UGL positively with all stakeholders
- Support site operational requirements, including participation in rostered and on‑call arrangements where applicable
About You
Essential Requirements
- A Grade Electrical Licence
- Current Construction White Card
- Current CPR and Low Voltage Rescue certification
- Current Australian Driver's Licence
- Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident with unrestricted working rights
- Experience in industrial, power generation, utilities, renewables, mining or similar high‑risk environments
- Strong troubleshooting and fault‑finding capability
- Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
Desirable
- Experience working on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), renewable energy, substations or high‑voltage assets
- High Voltage Switching or Operations qualifications
- Current First Aid Certificate
- High Risk Work Licence – EWP
- Experience with CMMS / maintenance management systems
- Understanding of SCADA and control systems
