Workshop Supervisor – Fitting Operations

TL Engineering is one of Western Australia's leading vehicle body builders, specialising in custom heavy and light vehicle solutions across government, mining, emergency services, infrastructure and commercial industries.

We're looking for an experienced Workshop Supervisor – Fitting Operations to lead our fitting team and drive the successful delivery of high-quality vehicle builds. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you'll spend your time on the workshop floor, supporting your team, solving technical challenges and ensuring every vehicle leaves our workshop to the highest standard.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will be responsible for leading all fitting operations from bare chassis through to completed vehicle delivery.

You will oversee a skilled team of fitters, auto electricians, hydraulic technicians, apprentices and trades assistants while coordinating daily workflow to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and on time.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing leadership with hands‑on technical involvement and takes pride in delivering quality workmanship.

Your Responsibilities

- Lead and mentor a multi‑skilled fitting team.
- Plan and coordinate daily workshop activities across multiple projects.
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to customer specifications.
- Oversee installation and commissioning of truck bodies, cranes, hydraulic systems, electrical systems and auxiliary equipment.
- Monitor project progress, labour efficiency and workshop performance.
- Conduct final quality inspections and ensure first‑time‑right outcomes.
- Promote a positive safety culture and maintain compliance with Australian Standards and NHVR requirements.
- Work closely with management,



sales and engineering to ensure successful project delivery.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality and workshop processes.

About You

- Extensive experience in heavy vehicle body building or vehicle fitting.
- Previous experience leading or supervising workshop trades personnel.
- A trade qualification in Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, Automotive Electrical, Mechanical Fitting or a related trade.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems used in commercial vehicles.
- Experience with vehicle‑mounted cranes, service bodies, trays, canopies or specialised vehicle builds.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret technical specifications.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- A solid commitment to safety, quality and customer satisfaction.

Highly Regarded

- Experience with light vehicle fit‑outs and canopy installations.
- HR Driver's Licence.
- Forklift Licence (LF).
- Knowledge of NHVR vehicle modification requirements.
- Project management experience.
