- Lead a six-person team across both employer and employee matters
- Join an award-recognised specialist practice with genuine influence over its direction
- Enjoy a 2.8 billable-hour day and direct access to a supportive Director
Why You Will Be Excited About This Role
This is a substantive leadership role for a senior employment lawyer ready to take ownership of practice performance, not simply inherit a larger caseload.
You will lead an established team of 6, oversee complex employer and employee matters, and work directly with the Director on legal quality, workflow, capability and growth. The mandate is clear: strengthen the practice’s operating discipline, commercial performance and leadership depth while preserving the collegial culture that has supported its reputation.
You will have the authority to influence how matters are run, how lawyers are developed and how the practice scales.
Why You Will Like Working Here
You will join a highly regarded Queensland employment law practice recognised by Doyle’s Guide for the quality of its work. Employment law is the firm’s core focus, so your expertise will sit at the centre of the business rather than within a broader full-service structure.
The culture is collegiate, qualified and direct. You will have close access to an experienced and approachable Director who values high standards, practical judgement and a sustainable working environment. The 2.8 billable-hour day reflects the importance placed on leadership, mentoring and practice development.
You will also benefit from:
- A stable collaborative team with an established client base
- Direct involvement in broader leadership and practice decisions
- A modern Brisbane CBD office with options to work from home
What You Will Be Working On
You will lead the day-to-day performance of the employment law practice and provide senior oversight across matters for both employers and employees.
Your remit will include:
- Guiding strategy on complex, sensitive and high-value matters
- Maintaining legal quality, risk discipline and commercial judgement
- Allocating workflow across the six-person team
- Leading file reviews, matter progression and resourcing
- Mentoring lawyers and building succession depth
- Improving WIP, billing discipline, realisation and recovery
- Strengthening precedents, systems and knowledge-sharing
- Growing client relationships, referrals and the broader practice
You will also contribute to recruitment, retention and the continued development of a more scalable, self-sustaining practice.
What Type of Person Will Be Successful
You are likely a Senior Associate, Special Counsel or experienced employment lawyer with the judgement and credibility to lead others.
You will ideally bring:
- At least 6 years’ post-admission experience
- Employment law, workplace relations or closely aligned litigation expertise
- An unrestricted Australian practising certificate
- Experience advising employers, employees or both, with the capacity to oversee matters across both sides
- Confidence supervising lawyers and reviewing complex work
- Strong commercial discipline across scope, WIP and billing
- The composure to manage demanding clients, competing priorities and sensitive matters
You will be commercially minded, collaborative and composed when managing complex clients, competing priorities and difficult conversations.
How to Apply
Please submit your resume and a brief covering note outlining your employment law and leadership experience. All applications and enquiries will be handled in strict confidence.
Strong candidates with transferable leadership experience are encouraged to apply, even where they do not meet every criterion.
