Overview
The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Manager, Professional Practice to provide expert leadership and advice within a prison, advancing evidence-based correctional practice and contributing to correctional excellence across Corrections. This is an ongoing, full-time opportunity to work within the Victorian Public Service (VPS) at VPS Grade 5: $116,413 - $140,849 plus superannuation.
Responsibilities
- Lead and strengthen professional practice across Corrections Victoria by providing specialist advice and practical support to embed evidence-based approaches, influence key stakeholders, and drive organisational improvement.
- Lead and develop professional practice capability, providing leadership, coaching, and performance oversight (direct and indirect) to strengthen custodial staff capability and embed evidence-based correctional practice.
- Provide expert practice advice and leadership, offering subject matter expertise and influencing decision‑making to support best-practice correctional approaches across the prison.
- Drive continuous improvement in correctional practice by leading and implementing strategic initiatives that enhance quality, consistency, and effectiveness of correctional practice and service delivery.
- Support staff wellbeing and decision making while contributing to safe, consistent environments and improved outcomes for people in custody.
- Collaborate with prison stakeholders to build workforce capability, support staff development, and enhance practice.
About You / Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based practice with a robust understanding of trauma-informed, person-centred and desistance-focused approaches to rehabilitation.
- Experience supporting complex and high-risk clients through evidence-based, person-centred practice, working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to achieve positive outcomes.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, criminology, human services, or related disciplines.
- Tertiary qualifications in training, assessment, teaching, or education.
- Formal training or certification in trauma-informed practice, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural interventions, or other evidence-based correctional approaches.
- Certificate IV in Correctional Practice (CSC40120).
