The role

As part of our Engineering and Sustainment Services group, the Senior Technical Officer – Combat System will lead the sustainment of the suite of Saab 9LV Combat System products for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), including the interface of underwater sensors, radar, weapons systems, communications, navigation aids and electronic warfare systems. They will be responsible for the upgrade, update and upkeep of advanced military Combat System equipment onboard RAN ships and support facilities, supporting the Anzac Class, Offshore Patrol Vessels, Landing Helicopter Docks, Auxiliary Oiler Replenisher and Hobart Class Destroyers. They will be accountable for the serviceability, readiness and accuracy of the combat systems, including operating systems and monitoring performance to identify and correct operational faults. They will conduct maintenance tasks, including routine planned maintenance, perform breakdown maintenance and implement corrective repairs.

- Coordinate and execute the testing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading a wide range of electronic, electrical and electro‑mechanical equipment on RAN ships, test sites and facilities.
- Deliver test, acceptance and set‑to‑work of hardware at factory and ship/shore installations.
- Diagnose and resolve problems related to operating systems, drivers and applications.
- Configure LANs, WANs, VPNs and Wi‑Fi, and diagnose network problems.
- Coordinate routine inspection, condition assessment and monitoring of systems.
- Identify and fix issues with physical components such as hard drives, memory, power supplies and circuit boards.
- Deliver closing reports and objective quality evidence such as test reports, test plans and drawing updates for delivery to the customer.




- Lead teams in routine and investigative work activities and coordinate all support functions such as test equipment, staging of equipment and liaison with stakeholders.
- Maintain and improve the safe work culture through identification and reporting of hazards.

About You

- Certificate III or higher in Electronics and Communications Engineering (or related UEE Electrotechnology competencies) (Essential).
- Certificate IV in Electronics and Communications Engineering or higher (Preferred).
- 5–8 years of experience in the defence force, defence industry or maritime environment.
- Knowledge of circuits and wiring fault finding in PC and industrial computing bus systems (cPCI, VME).
- Field fault diagnosis and repair of electronic and electrical equipment.
- Working at Heights and Construction Industry White Card.
- Proficiency in supervisory, coordinating and planning skills.
- Experience installing, commissioning and maintaining electronic systems.
- Experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting of MS Windows, macOS and Linux operating systems.
- Expertise in IPC workmanship standards.
- A collaborative, accountable and cutting-edge approach to delivering results.
