United Wambo Joint Venture (UWJV) is an open-cut coal mine located 16 kilometres west of Singleton in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. UWJV is a 50:50 joint venture between United Collieries (Glencore and MEU) and Wambo Coal (Peabody). United Wambo Joint Venture is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environment & Community Officer to support our operation. Reporting to the Environment & Community Manager, this role supports the delivery of environmental and community programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, environmental approvals, and site-specific obligations. The successful candidate will assist in the implementation of environmental monitoring programs, support community engagement activities, and contribute to the delivery of site environmental management plans. You will be involved in data collection and reporting, stakeholder engagement, and providing support for regulatory inspections and audits. This position is suited to a proactive and adaptable individual with strong communication skills and a practical approach to environmental and community responsibilities. You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders, including regulators and community representatives, while developing your technical skills and gaining exposure to best-practice environmental management.
Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of environmental monitoring programs and site environmental management plans.
- Assist in data collection, reporting, and compliance with regulatory requirements and environmental approvals.
- Engage with stakeholders, including regulators and community representatives, to support community engagement activities.
- Provide support for regulatory inspections and audits; contribute to the preparation of reports and records.
- Collaborate across departments to implement environmental and community initiatives.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in environmental science or engineering.
- Relevant experience in a similar role within the resources sector.
- Working knowledge of mining approvals legislation and processes.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Robust analytical, auditing, and report-writing skills.
- Strong project and contractor management skills with experience in community relations.
- Robust systems focus and strategic approach to delivering positive outcomes.
- Experience in delivering training and awareness programs to employees on environmental and community matters.
- Excellent time management, presentation, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency in ArcGIS is highly desirable.
