Project Lead – National Indigenous Diabetes

Role Type: Full time, fixed term for 2 years

Faculty: Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences

School: Onemda – Melbourne School of Population and Global Health & Melbourne School of Health Sciences

Salary: $152,695 – $176,065 per annum plus 17% superannuation

About the Role

Lead a landmark national project to close the gap in diabetes for Indigenous communities. Collaborate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander partners to drive meaningful health, policy and research outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead day-to-day management of the Close the Gap in Diabetes project, achieving agreed milestones and outcomes.
- Design and deliver the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Diabetes Summit with key partners and stakeholders.
- Prepare governance, ethics and collaboration documentation, ensuring compliance and effective project risk and quality management.
- Coordinate research activities, data analysis and publication of findings, disseminating evidence through reports, presentations and forums.
- Build and maintain culturally safe partnerships with Aboriginal organisations, communities and service providers across Australia.

Qualifications and Experience

- Doctoral-level qualification or equivalent experience in public health, health systems or a related health discipline.




- Advanced project planning and organisational skills across complex research or health service environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management experience with communities, services and multidisciplinary teams.
- High-level analytical and research skills, including data management, evaluation and innovative problem solving.
- Excellent written communication, reports, presentations and culturally informed consultation with diverse audiences.
- Ability to work effectively in distributed teams, balancing independent judgement with collaborative decision-making and guidance seeking.
