We are partnering with a well-funded medtech startup to find an Embedded Software Engineer to join their growing team. This is an "on-the-tools" role, where you'll work on breakthrough point-of-care diagnostics, enabling earlier diagnosis and faster treatment.
About the role
As an Embedded Systems Engineer, you will be designing, developing, and maintaining the core software that powers these point-of-care diagnostics. You will be working primarily with an Embedded Linux platform running on top of an FPGA core, building C++ applications on top, and working with bare-metal CPUs.
While the core of the role is embedded and systems integration, there is also the longer-term opportunity to get involved in cloud technologies if that aligns with your career interests.
The team will rely on you to:
- Design, implement, and test embedded software across a range of hardware platforms.
- Develop productive, reliable code for real-time systems, optimising software for memory usage and processing efficiency.
- Collaborate closely with hardware engineers, software developers, and product teams to ensure seamless system-level integration with peripheral components.
- Troubleshoot and debug software issues, working comfortably at the interface of software and electronics to identify root causes.
- Support verification and validation activities to ensure strict system performance and reliability.
- Follow established development practices across the full software lifecycle, including strict version control and documentation standards.
Ideally you have:
- Proven experience in embedded software development with a strong understanding of real-time systems and microcontrollers.
- Strong programming proficiency in C and C++.
- Hands-on experience with embedded operating systems, including embedded Linux, FreeRTOS, and bare-metal environments.
- A degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Bonus points if you also have:
- Experience working with AMD Xilinx Zynq or similar SoC/FPGA platforms.
- Familiarity with embedded Linux build systems such as PetaLinux or Yocto, and experience developing Linux device drivers.
- Proficiency in Python for scripting, testing, or automation.
- Experience with hardware-software integration and low-level interfaces.
What's next
We will be reviewing applications over the coming weeks, and contacting shortlisted candidates for a phone screen before interviewing with the client.
