Principal Mechanical Engineer required to join a leading consultancy and take the lead on a newly awarded major contract with a solid long-term pipeline of work while mentoring junior engineers.

As the Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across the delivery of mechanical engineering projects, overseeing the design of tanks, pressure vessels, piping systems and mechanical equipment. Working closely with senior leadership, you will guide engineers, review technical deliverables and ensure practical, high-quality engineering solutions are delivered from concept through to detailed design.

This role offers the chance to influence technical outcomes, mentor engineers and contribute to project planning and delivery while working across a diverse portfolio of brownfield and greenfield projects.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the mechanical design of tanks, pressure vessels, piping systems and mechanical equipment.
- Oversee drafting activities and ensure engineering deliverables meet Issued for Construction (IFC) standards.
- Review and approve engineering calculations,



technical reports and design specifications.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and development support to engineers within the team.
- Contribute to project planning, scope development and scheduling activities.
- Collaborate with clients, suppliers, project teams and construction personnel to achieve successful project outcomes.
- Ensure engineering solutions comply with relevant Australian and international standards.

About You

- Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent qualification.
- RPEQ registration and/or CPEng accreditation.
- Extensive experience delivering mechanical engineering solutions within the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Resources or Water sectors.
- Strong capability in the design of pressure vessels, storage tanks, piping systems and rotating and static equipment.
- Sound working knowledge of relevant industry codes, including API 650, ASME VIII, AS 1210, AS 4041 and ASME B31.3.
- Experience using engineering software such as Caesar II, AutoPIPE and/or NozzlePro.
- Proven leadership capability with experience mentoring engineers and collaborating with multidisciplinary and construction teams.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
