Overview

Chance to work for the Hunter New England Local Health District as an Unaccredited Trainee in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The role is offered at John Hunter Hospital and its rotational site at The Maitland Hospital, providing training for both College and GP pathways.

Where you'll be working

The Maternity and Gynaecology Service at John Hunter Hospital, a Level 6 tertiary referral hospital with 48 obstetric beds (plus 15 flexible beds), performing 4,300 deliveries per annum. The service also offers rural training opportunities and a new state‑of‑the‑art Birthing and Postnatal Service to open in 2027.

Mandate

The mandate is to provide safe, effective and equitable medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment covering in‑patients and outpatients. The Unaccredited Trainee is responsible for the initial assessment of patients and ongoing day‑to‑day management under the direction and supervision of appropriate consultants. They also ensure appropriate communication and documentation, and contribute to the training and supervision of junior medical staff.

Responsibilities

- Initial assessment and ongoing management of patients in the obstetrics and gynaecology service.




- Maintain accurate and timely documentation and communication with consultants and team members.
- Support the training and supervision of junior medical staff.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions.

Qualifications and Experience

1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the essential requirements for the role.
2. Advanced ability to work collaboratively within multi‑disciplinary teams.
3. Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise.
4. Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
5. Advanced ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
6. Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in obstetrics and gynaecology.
7. Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
