About the Position

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School. The hospital’s Neurosurgical Unit provides elective and emergency neurosurgery and neurology services, treating a wide range of conditions including cranial and spinal trauma, tumours, vascular, paediatric and complex spine cases.

We are seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for the position of Unaccredited Neurosurgery Registrar (Medical Practitioner Level 5‑11). The role offers competitive salary, superannuation, salary packaging and a supportive work environment.

Duties

The Registrar is responsible for the day‑to‑day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients and provides after‑hours emergency cover as required. Duties include clinical care, supervision of junior staff, participation in multidisciplinary teams and maintaining clinical documentation.

Essential Requirements

- Registration or eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)

Employment Details

- Salary: $138,978 – $194,675 per annum + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging
- Classification: Medical Practitioner Level 5‑11 (Registrar/Senior Registrar)
- Award: Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
- Period of Employment: Fixed term, full time day work with on‑call; 76 hours per fortnight (+10 hours protected training time per fortnight, pro rata), commencing 1 February 2027 until 7 February 2028
- Appointments up to 24 months may be available for suitable applicants
- Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.
