As we continue to grow, we are seeking a skilled and passionate Motor Mechanic (General) to join our expert workshop team and help us deliver the premium automotive experience our clients expect.
About the Role
As a Motor Mechanic (General) at Ikigai Motors, you will maintain, test, and repair a diverse range of imported Japanese and European vehicles across our busy Northcote workshop. Working with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and genuine parts, you will bring precision, technical expertise, and a passion for quality automotive care to every job, from routine logbook servicing through to complex mechanical and engine overhaul work.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Detecting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults in engines and vehicle components across a range of Japanese and European makes and models
- Dismantling and removing engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and other components, and inspecting parts for wear or damage
- Repairing and replacing worn and defective parts and reassembling mechanical components, referring to service and technical manuals as required
- Performing scheduled maintenance services including log book servicing, oil changes, lubrications, and engine tune-ups in line with manufacturer specifications
- Reassembling engines and components following repair and overhaul
- Testing and adjusting mechanical parts after repair to ensure proper performance and safety
- Diagnosing and testing components with the assistance of computerised diagnostic equipment
- Performing ADR compliance-related mechanical inspections and modifications on imported vehicles as directed
- Inspecting vehicles and advising on roadworthiness as required
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment in accordance with occupational health and safety standards
Requirements
- AQF Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (AUR30620) including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)
- Proven experience of at least 1 year as a qualified Motor Mechanic (General)
- Experience servicing and repairing Japanese vehicles (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Suzuki) — essential
- Experience with European prestige marques (BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche) — highly regarded
- Proficiency in computerised diagnostic tools and equipment
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals and technical specifications
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship
- Current Victorian driver's licence — mandatory
- At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for formal qualifications
- Registration or licensing may be required
