Powered by Brunel, we are looking for a dedicated Grid Connection Engineer to lead end‑to‑end AEMO and NSP grid connection processes for renewable energy projects in Melbourne, Victoria.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the end‑to‑end AEMO and NSP grid connection process for renewable energy projects.
Conduct preliminary analysis of transmission network data to assess feasible connection points and network capacity for early‑stage projects.
Ensure all Connection Applications comply with AEMO and NSP requirements, standards, and guidelines.
Collaborate with internal team on project development, engineering, and project management to ensure grid connection requirements are fully understood and integrated into project planning.
Provide guidance on grid‑related costs, timelines, risks, and technical constraints.
Engage and maintain effective communication with external parties, including AEMO, NSPs, OEMs, technical consultants, and regulatory bodies.
Lead GPS (Generator Performance Standards) and Connection Application meetings with consultants and stakeholders.
Oversee generator registration, loss factor assessments, and evaluation of market rule changes impacting projects.
Provide technical input into substation and collector network design.
Support operations during plant changeovers, technical investigations, and non‑conformance resolutions.
Maintain an up‑to‑date understanding of R0 & R1 regulations and relevant industry standards.
Support feasibility studies, design development, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning from a grid‑connection perspective.
Contribute to building a high‑performance, cooperative, and innovative team culture.
Requirements
5 years of experience in grid connection within the renewable energy sector.
Experience navigating the AEMO grid connection and generator registration process for NEM‑connected projects, including preparing Connection Applications, negotiating GPS, and supporting Hold Point testing and commissioning.
Strong modelling capability for solar and BESS projects using PSSE, PSCAD, or Power Factory, supported by a proven track record as a Grid Connection Engineer with practical R0/R1 expertise.
Deep understanding of AEMO processes, NSP requirements, generator SLDs, TNSP/DNSP methodologies, and the broader NEM and NER framework.
Demonstrates a collaborative approach, working effectively across functions and contributing to a positive, cohesive team environment.
Highly self‑motivated with a strong drive to develop both technical expertise and commercial acumen.
