About the Role

The Health Policy and Programs Division is responsible for providing advice to the Minister for Health and the ACT Government to meet the health needs of the community. This is done by contributing to the creation of policy settings that ensure the right care can be accessed in the right place, in the right way, at the right time, and that people are better able to care for themselves.

Key Responsibilities

Contribute to the management and coordination of policies, Cabinet, ACT Legislative Assembly, Ministerial briefings, Directorate coordination and other related issues impacting on the health and wellbeing of First Nations Communities in the ACT and region.

Ensure coherent, timely, high‑quality advice, briefing and information to Ministers, Senior Executives, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Organisations/Health Organisations and other internal and external stakeholders at the intersection of health and community services both locally and nationally.





Qualifications and Eligibility

Ideally a candidate has a strong connection to the ACT and region (or can demonstrate creating these connections), a health professional qualification, and experience in health service delivery.

Strong leadership experience in complex projects and ability to maintain respectful partnerships is required. The position is an identified role in accordance with Section 27(4) of the Public Sector Management Act 1994 and is only open to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander lived experience and cultural capability are considered essential.

Location and Working Conditions

Candidate must be located in the ACT and work in a hybrid mode both remotely and at the physical office with days in the office potentially increasing over the period.

Employment Terms and Benefits

This is a temporary position available for nine months with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
