- About the role
In this senior technical role, you will manage the design lifecycle of infrastructure projects from concept through to Issued for Construction (IFC), delivering safe, practical and sustainable outcomes that enhance the city's public infrastructure.
You will lead the design delivery of roads, intersections, footpaths, car parks and other civil infrastructure assets, providing technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with internal stakeholders and external consultants, you will ensure projects are delivered to a high standard, on time and in line with program objectives.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead the delivery of civil design projects from concept through to IFC.
- Scope, plan and coordinate design activities to meet Capital Works Program priorities.
- Prepare and review design documentation, including concept and detailed designs, drawings, specifications, reports and cost estimates.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design inputs across internal teams and external consultants.
- Ensure designs meet relevant safety, constructability, quality, compliance and stakeholder requirements.
- Apply Safety in Design principles and manage design-related risk identification and mitigation.
- Provide technical leadership, resolve complex design issues and support informed decision-making.
- Mentor and support junior engineers and drafters, fostering technical capability and quality outcomes.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of design standards, tools, templates and delivery processes.
About you
You are a collaborative and experienced civil engineer with a strong track record in infrastructure design.
You bring sound technical expertise, confidently manage competing priorities and build effective relationships with stakeholders to deliver high-quality, practical design solutions.
You will have:
- A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- A current unrestricted Australian Class C Driver Licence.
- RPEQ registration, or eligibility to obtain registration.
- Extensive experience delivering civil infrastructure design projects.
- Experience working within, or in partnership with, local government or other public sector organisations.
- Strong knowledge of relevant design standards and guidelines, including Austroads, TMR and QUDM.
- Demonstrated experience leading design teams and managing technical outputs across multiple projects.
- A sound understanding and practical application of Safety in Design principles.
- Excellent written, verbal and stakeholder communication skills.
